In today's business world, if your business is not blooming and turning in a loss, most professionals will tell you to count your losses and leave the market before you suffer any more damage. This is a ridiculous statement that has been made several times in order for your competition to gain more market share. The truth is that the key to a successful business is persistence.

It may seem absurd to continue operating your small business even though all fingers point towards failure but you need to keep one phrase in mind, "if you persist long enough, you will eventually succeed". It takes time for businesses to grow, especially in this competitive and tough economy and because of this, many businesses fail. They simply quit too early in order to save the money that they have invested in their company.

What you need to keep in mind is that the majority of small businesses, even big businesses, go through some sort of financial strain at one point of operation. This strain is usually evident in the beginning stages of your business' life cycle. Not only does the business take a lot of money to set up but it also takes a large amount of time from the owner. Due to this strain, many business owners become frustrated too easily and just give up if they are not making profit. You need to be patient and give your business some time to grow and get noticed by the target market.

The best way to be persistent and see a valuable change in your business is to keep improving your business. Every aspect of your business from the store or website that you operate within to the products or services you sell should be continually improved. Improve the quality of your products, the quality of your staff and even the quality of customer service that you provide. If you show quality in every aspect of your business, customers will be attracted and will buy from you just to get a quality experience which many businesses do not offer.

Remember, you could be persistent and still not be successful. You need to continually improve your quality as well in order for your persistence to pay off.

Another way to be persistent and successful at the same time is to learn from your mistakes. The more you continue to operate in a certain market, the more you will learn about the market, the type of people you will meet and how you will eventually land a sale. During that time, you will also make mistakes and lose clients and potential sales. However, if you wish for your small business to be successful, you must be persistent and remember all of the mistakes that you have made and then try to work on them so that they do not happen again.

In addition to learning from experience, you can always purchase books and guides to keep you updated of current market conditions and what customers expect when they purchase a product from you.

Never ever get discouraged by people who tell you that you can't do it. You will never know until you try and in order for you to be successful, you always need to be persistent.
